State Street Global Advisors, part of US-headquartered , is launching a fund aiming to capture returns of hedge funds as a broad asset class. The new entity is called the State Street Global Alternative Beta Fund.

Hedge Fund Research’s HFRX Global Hedge Fund Index, a widely known benchmark of performance of the $5 trillion-plus (AuM) sector, is the reference for the fund.

The offering is registered in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark. It has been seeded with an initial £123 million ($160.9 million) investment from Quilter Investors.

The aim of the new fund is to make access to hedge fund returns more accessible to investors.
